Wood Species Styles for Cabinetry

Alder

Alder

Alder is characterized by its straight grain and even texture. It’s an excellent choice for homeowners that desire color tones between that of Cherry and Maple. It’s a fantastic warm tone that can fit a broad range of design styles, from classic to contemporary.

Cherry

Cherry

There’s no mistaking the elegance of rich, warm, cherry kitchens. Cherry mellows beautifully with age and deepens to a handsome darker tone.  This “mellowing” effect is enhanced by exposure to bright light and, depending on the amount of exposure, will tend to darken several shades over time. Considered a luxury wood due, cherry has pinkish-brown hues. Its dark color brings a warm elegance to any room.

Hickory / Pecan

Hickory / Pecan

Hickory and Pecan are some of the strongest, hardest and heaviest woods with random natural streaks that add unique accents to your cabinetry. With character all their own and ranges of attractive color variations that are naturally prominent, either wood can be enhanced by light or dark stains. From the rugged, natural look of a cabin kitchen, to the rich wood tones of an uptown kitchen, Hickory and Pecan cross a variety of styles.

Maple

Maple

Maple is is a medium to hard wood with a straight, wavy or curly grain. Popular for its shock resistance and durability, maple has a light, uniform appearance that produces a smooth, clean look. Another plus is that it can also be finished to resemble other, more expensive hardwoods and softwoods such as cherry. A great choice for an updated, light, airy kitchen or creating a dramatic kitchen with darker tones or finishes.

Oak

Oak

Oak is a very hard, heavy wood with coarse grain that varies from straight to a distinctive sweeping arch pattern. It blends beautifully with many different designs, complementing its surroundings with warmth and beauty. Bring the outdoors inside your home with the natural textures of oak’s grain.

Thermo Foil (Deco-Form)

Thermo foil (Deco-form)

Thermofoil cabinetry is fresh and always in style. Bonding a durable layer of phenolic backing to traditional rigid thermo foil, Deco Lam is an exact match to doors, drawers, and moldings. These whites and wood-like finishes are created by using durable thermofoil materials which are permanently applied to the wood, providing a hard-wearing, long-lasting, easy-to-clean surface.

Walnut

Walnut

Walnut is a great wood for contrast with lighter-colored species due to its light to dark chocolate brown heartwood, with occasional purplish casts.
