Corian Maintenance
ROUTINE CARE
Routine care and daily maintenance of DuPont Corian is easy. Use the following procedures as a guide to everyday care for your Corian surfaces.
There are three types of countertop finish: matte, semi-gloss, and gloss; Kitchen Mart’s standard finish is matte. All Corian sinks come with a matte finish.
The easiest way to care for your matte finish is to use soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner. In your Corian sink, feel free to use a light abrasive cleanser and a Scotch-Brite pad.
REMOVING STAINS & FIXING SCRATCHES & BURNS
Corian is non-porous, so nothing permanently stains it.
Minor damage such as scratches, general or chemical stains, scorches or burns, and impact marks can be repaired on-site with a light abrasive cleanser and a gray Scotch-Brite pad, available at Home Depot.
Avoid using the green Scotch-Brite
pads, as they are much more abrasive. Use a little water, mild abrasive, and the Scotch-Brite pad in a circular motion, with light pressure. Rinse with water and dry with a towel.
PREVENTING HEAT & OTHER DAMAGE
Although Corian is very heat-resistant, you should always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect it.
Hot pans, as well as some heat-generating appliances like frying pans or electric skillets, can damage the surface if a hot pad or trivet is not used.
Corian can be repaired if it is damaged. However, be sure to follow these guidelines to prevent any permanent damage to your Corian:
- Avoid exposing Corian to strong chemicals, such as paint removers, oven cleaners, etc. If contact occurs, flush with water.
- Do not cut directly on your Corian; always use a cutting board of some type. Cutting on your Corian will dull your knives and put light scratches in the Corian.
